Mayor Proclaims August 9-15 “American Wind Week”

East Providence, RI – On behalf of the city of East Providence, Mayor Bob DaSilva proclaims the week of August 9, 2020 as “American Wind Week” in the city of East Providence. “Our community has recognized the impact and benefits of wind energy in Rhode Island and we look forward to seeing further development of wind energy here in the state,” Mayor DaSilva said.

Wind energy is the largest provider of renewable energy in the country. The state of Rhode Island has contributed to renewable energy in the nation by providing a home to 22 renewable energy wind projects with two added wind-related manufacturing facilities. Wind developments in the state have generated 500 jobs for Rhode Islanders. It has also generated enough electricity to power more than 20,000 homes and has created $380 million in total capital investments since 2006.

The city of East Providence has recognized the importance of wind energy and its effects both locally and nationally. The city of East Providence has always been, and will continue to be, a willing partner and participant in seeking and considering potential means of alternative energy resources.
