The East Providence High School girls basketball team won a lot more than a basketball game on Thursday night. The team and their guests, Classical High School, entertained a large "Pink-Out" crowd at the Dr. Isadore S. Ramos Gymnasium and Luis Carvalho court at EPHS. Coach Mike Solitro and team, along with many sponsors and donations from schools throughout East Providence, raised over $3,000 at last night's event. The team has raised $15,000 over an 8 year period in raising money to help battle cancer.

Coach Solitro and his 'Opportunity Knocks' volunteer fundraising group dedicated the game "in honor of my grandmother, who lost her battle many years ago. Before the game there was a special presentation to the Duggan family, who recently lost their wife and mother, Amy, to a battle with breast cancer.

The night was very festive with halftime contests, music, raffles, pizza, and a very impressive display of basketball.

Many city officials were in attendance. Ethan Conley was selected as honorary assistant coach for the evening. "I just want to take this opportunity to thank Head Coach Mike Solitro, Assistant Coach Dan Cabral, and the East Providence High School Girls Basketball Team for allowing my son, Ethan, to be the honorary assistant coach at last night's "Pink Out" game against Classical High School. It was a wonderful event, a big win for the Lady Townies and Ethan had a wonderful time. Once again thank you to everyone involved,"said ward 4 city councilman Tim Conley.

The Reporter will post more pictures from the event shortly!
