Kindness is in the Air at Hennessey Elementary School!!

Posted

Kindness is evident at Hennessey Elementary as we focused on how to show kindness throughout the school community. Students and staff participated in a school-wide kindness rocks project where each class painted positive messages on rocks to display outside of our school. Students have been learning how to show kindness throughout their school day from their classrooms to the lunchroom. Students created posters on how to show kindness in their words and actions. Students and staff wrote messages of kindness to leave on desks and tables of their classmates and teachers. At recess, students participated in Playworks games that focused on teamwork and kindness. Kyla, a 3rd grader says, “It makes you feel good to be kind. It’s a good way to make friends. You can show kindness by holding the door, cleaning up for a friend, or helping out your mom or dad with dishes and laundry.” Also, students participated in creating a school-wide book on kindness which they created during their lunchtime learning. Peter, a 5th grader, who gives staff and students high fives each morning to say hello says, “It’s fun to be kind and help people out. People who aren’t friends can still help each other.” Peter says he has witnessed this in school and after school. Kindness continued to spread through our Girls on the Run Program, with a Baby Drive to support families who may be struggling in the community. The girls, with the guidance of the GOTR coaches, completed a community service project. The girls brainstormed ideas and voted on the top choices. It’s a great time to be a Hennessey Hero!!!
