Joan E. McHugh, 81, of Hanover, NH and formerly of East Providence, passed away on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at her residence at Wheelock Terrace. She was the wife of Charles F. McHugh to whom she was married for 61 years.

Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Nazaka and Anna Senkevicz. First and foremost, she was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. She was a graduate of St. Xavier’s Academy in Providence. She participated in her religious community as a member of the Board of Adult Religious Education Programs in East Providence, 1978-1982 and a member and teacher of the Education Committee of St. Martha’s Church, 1976-1982. Prior to her retirement in 1999 from the State of Rhode Island, she was an Administrative Assistant working in the Office of Research and Grants Administration for Rhode Island College. She lived in East Providence with her husband until 2013 when they moved to New Hampshire to be closer to family.

She predeceased her husband Charles by only two days. She leaves behind two sons, Charles and his wife Maria Stella of Grantham, NH and Mark of Wichita, KS, and five grandchildren: Liana, Nicholas, Caitlin, Ian, and Sydney. She was the sister of the late Joseph Nazaka.

Her funeral will be held on Friday, May 25, 2018 at 9:00 AM from the Perry McStay Funeral Home, 2555 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Martha’s Church, Pawtucket Avenue. She will be buried with her husband in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Bristol. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, May 24, 2018 from 5-8.
