J. Kevin Clancy - It is with profound sadness that the family of Kevin Clancy announces his passing into eternal life on January 14, 2019 at the age of 68. Kevin passed very peacefully onto the “Stairway to Heaven” surrounded by his loving family. He was the son of the late John T. (Jr) and Elizabeth V. (Quirk) Clancy. Kevin was a lifelong resident of East Providence and a proud “Townie”, graduating from East Providence High School, class of 1969. He was also a US Army veteran. Kevin worked as a Specialty Worker at the former Providence Gravure for 18 years, at Providence College in the Physical Plant for 8 years and lastly for the US Post Office in Providence as a mail handler for 10 years until his retirement.

Kevin was an avid sports enthusiast beginning in the early 1960’s, as in the old days, with the PC Friars on the radio and listening to Chris Clark. Fast forward to this past Sunday as he savored the NE Patriots victory over the LA Chargers, watching the game with his best buds, brother Charlie and son-in-law Jason. As a kid Kevin played any sport available, Little League, CYO or Interscholastic Leagues and was quite talented. He was a proud member of the undefeated EPHS football team for the 1967 & 1968 seasons. He was a founding member, and player/coach, of the Clark & Son Men’s Softball team that went on to win the National Championship in 1979. Once the team disbanded Kevin went on and became a USSA Certified Softball Umpire for 20 plus years. He was legendary on the field, known for his fairness and accuracy.

Kevin is survived by his cherished daughters, Jennifer R. Vieira and her husband Jason of Attleboro, MA and Kerry L. Clancy of Delray Beach, FL. Kevin was the adored Grandpa to four, Evan, Chloe and Avery Vieira and Jenna Lareau, all of Attleboro, MA. Kevin is also survived by his eight loving siblings, Sheila C. Perkins (Tom), J. Charles Clancy (Barbara), Elizabeth C. DeCosta (Dickie), Michaela C. Mercier (Richard), all of East Providence, Mary Sue Tavares (Manny) of Barrington, Kathleen (Katy) C. Cooke (Johnny), Lisa Jane Clancy and J. Christopher Clancy, also of East Providence. He was also the brother of the late James Joseph Clancy. Additionally leaves 16 treasured nieces and nephews, 8 great nieces and nephews and an amazing number of strongly valued friends.

His funeral will be held on Wednesday, January 23, 2019 from the W. Raymond Watson Funeral Home, 350 Willett Avenue, Riverside at 8:45 AM with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Brendan Church, Turner Avenue, Riverside at 10 AM. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Calling hours for Kevin will be held on Tuesday, January 22 from 3-7PM. Flowers are respectfully omitted. Contributions in Kevin’s memory to The ARC of Blackstone Valley, 500 Prospect Street, Pawtucket, RI 02860 would be deeply appreciated.

Kevin was a kind and gentle soul. He will be remembered as a fiercely loyal Dad, Grandpa, Brother, Uncle, and Friend to all who he cherished. His unyielding fighting spirit was known to many and will forever glow in the hearts of all who were blessed to call him friend. He was happy to have been given the gift of life and he enjoyed the ride.
