Mayor Rogers - "You convinced me, I will fight to reverse!"

By Bob Rodericks

After hearing hours of testimony from middle and high school students and their parents, Mayor Bruce Rogers announced that "I will now fight to reverse this decision (to end middle school sports funding). The B&E report was referred to the school committee and their administration supported it", said Rogers. "We found an alternative way to fund all day kindergarten but not sports. I was a former little league president, I know the value of sports. The children today have convinced me. I will fight for you, but you must help me find ways to help you," said Rogers. The other two commission members remained silent. "Thank you mayor," rang the chant from the crowd. "I know how much time and effort all of your coaches give back. They are tremendous role models for you. We need to restore this. Although Chairman O'Keefe and the commission wanted to end all day kindergarten as well as sports, all day K has survived the commission's cuts. Rogers and O'Keefe have been at odds through much of this process. Rogers recently told O'Keefe that regarding the re-appointment of a city board member, "I'll bring my A game." "Bring it on," retorted O'Keefe. Stay tuned.
