"Graying" EP Basketball Players Seek St. Martha's/Silver Spring Reunion!

Posted

East Providence resident and area youth coach Donnie Battle Senna is organizing a get-together of neighborhood friends who played basketball at the Silver Spring Elementary School via St. Martha's CYO. Senna, a 1990 East Providence High Graduate is inviting these alumni to a Saturday, September 24th event at Silver Spring School from 1p.m to 4 p.m.

"Calling all of the old Silver Spring neighborhood and all of the St. Martha's basketball alumni," said Senna in his general invitation. "Come on out and see old team mates and friends. Let's get together and talk about the old times and play some pick-up games," urged Senna.

Senna said that some of the former coaches from that era are going to be there and several former players are returning. The group plans some 5 on 5 games and a three point shooting contest. "We will also have grills there with hotdogs and hamburgers. It's a family friendly event, so bring the kids, spouses, etc.," said Senna. Senna reminds all that there is a new beautiful playground on the grounds for young children.

The group hopes to make the reunion an annual event and will take donations to help local charities like the Kim Borges Nunes Foundation and the Julie Silva Foundation - "they both do great work in East Providence."

Spread the word that the reunion is on and "there is no truth to the rumor that the hoops will be lowered to accommodate the aging basketball players who have surely slowed down a bit!"
