George H. Furtado, Sr.

George H. Furtado Sr., 94 of East Providence passed away Monday, February 20, 2023, at The Veterans Medical Center in Providence, surrounded by his Loving family.

George was the Beloved husband of the late Shirley Mae (Bonoyer) Furtado. They were married 68 years.

Born in Providence, R.I., he was the son of the late Manuel and Branca "Blanche” (DaSilva) Furtado.

George proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict with the United States Army. Retiring as Sargeant, he was awarded the Army of Occupation Medal in Germany.

For most of his career he worked in the Insurance Industry, including 18 years at FM Global Insurance Co. He was a life member of The DAV (Disabled American Veterans), a member of the American Legion Post #10 of Riverside, an Advisory Board Member of The East Providence Senior Center and a member of HGBB of Philips Street Hall. George was also inducted into the Fox Point Boys & Girls Club Hall of Fame.

He leaves two sons, George H. Furtado, Jr., (Martha) of Warwick, David Furtado (Patricia) of East Providence, Barbara Furtado of Cranston, two grandchildren, Victoria Furtado (Fiancé James Lovell), Elizabeth Furtado (Fiancé Kaley DeMarzo) and one great granddaughter Piper Mae Lovell.

Mr. Furtado was the brother of the late Edwin Furtado.

Visiting Hours and Funeral will be held Saturday, February 25, 2023, from the REBELLO FUNERAL HOME at 7:30 am to be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 am at Saint Francis Xavier Church, N. Carpenter Street. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Wampanoag Trail, Riverside.
