George Amaral

George Amaral, formerly of Summit St., East Providence, passed away on January 18, 2021. Born on October 26, 1923 in East Providence; he was the youngest son of the late Joaquim and Maria (Leite) Amaral.

He worked as a Traffic Manager in the Sales and Advertising Department for Hasbro Toy Industries. He proudly served our country with honor as a WWII Veteran serving with the US Navy. He was stationed in Port Bizerte, NW Africa where he sailed on D-Day to the Invasions Operations to Sicily, Salerno Landing, Anzio and St. Tropez.

The Amaral Brothers Bridge on Veteran's Memorial Parkway was dedicated to the five Amaral brothers who all served together in the US Navy during WWII. George was the last survivor.

He was predeceased by his siblings; John J. Amaral, Mary A. Rocha, Hortense A. Foster, Anthony J. Amaral, Manuel J. Amaral, Joaquim Amaral Jr., Sylvester P. Amaral, Eugene J. Amaral, Horace (Harry) J. Amaral, David W. Amaral and Sylvia Amaral.

George leaves many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great-great nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday at 10am in St. Francis Xavier Church, 81 N. Carpenter St., East Providence. Calling hours will be on Friday from 9-10am in church prior to Mass. Burial with Military Honors will be private.

George's wishes were that flowers be omitted, and donations made to St. Francis Xavier Church.
