EPHS TOWNIE Softball & Baseball Monday Wins

Both EP Squads Playing Well With 6-2 Records

The East Providence High School softball team defeated Cumberland in a thriller under the lights Tuesday night in 2-1 game at East Providence. Cumberland scored their run in the top of the first inning and the Townies answered with a third inning score to tie the game. The game remained tied in a well-pitched game. Tanya Cooper and Alyssa Guarino was the winning Townie battery. A triple by Emma DaSilva In the fifth inning ignited an EP attack as DaSilva scored what would be the winning run on a wild pitch. DaSilva barely slid home safely under the Cumberland catcher's tag. East Providence is now 6-2 in Division One play. Cooper had 6 strikeouts and no walks for EP. The Townies had 5 hits while Cumberland had 4. Jocelyn Bodington struck out 10 for the Clippers.

The East Providence High baseball team also won on Tuesday night in an away game at Johnston High. EP defeated Johnston 8-4 in a game that saw the Townies amass 11 hits. Seth Daly went 4-4 at the plate and Josh Silveira, Zach Fanara and Ben Sears all had multiple hit games for EP. In a tied game in the 5th inning, Ben Sears smashed a two RBI double. Sears pitched well giving up 6 hits and striking out 4 Johnston batters. EP scored one run each in the 1st and 3rd innings and a 5 run explosion in the 5th carried the Townies to the 8-4 win. East Providence is now 6-2 with a tough week ahead. EP plays at Coventry on Thursday and finishes the week with always tough Hendricken at home, 4 P.M. on Friday afternoon at Pierce Stadium.
