Dighton-Rehoboth Regional School District Awarded Grant for Rapid Testing from the Commonwealth

Posted

The Dighton-Rehoboth Regional School District (DRRSD) is one of 133 school districts across the Commonwealth that has been selected to receive COVID-19 rapid PCR testing kits at no cost.

The Abbott BinaxNOW rapid testing system is a reliable tool for testing symptomatic children and adults. Next steps include the completion of the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendment and comprehensive training. DRRSD will be utilizing the testing kits to detect and isolate Coronavirus cases within the school community.

Parent/Guardian consent is required for students to receive a test. Results are delivered within 15 minutes and reported to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and Department of Early and Secondary Education.

DRRSD considers the Abbott BINAX NOW grant an exciting opportunity and a critical step in keeping schools healthy spaces for students and staff with today’s COVID-19 metrics and trends. This opportunity is especially important for maintaining current learning models, enhanced contact tracing, and providing on site mitigation. Test kits are expected to arrive by early December.
