Dear Rehoboth Community,

Posted

On July 17th, 2018 you will have an opportunity to "fix the funding" by passing a proposition 2 1/2 override in Rehoboth. This override is necessary because in 2014 the assessments to Dighton and Rehoboth changed. Dighton was paying approximately $1.4 million more than it should have. Instead, Rehoboth should have been paying this amount and unfortunately the town has not developed a revenue stream to cover that cost.

Thus, over the past 3 years, the Town of Rehoboth and the school district have worked together to balance the budget through cuts and reductions to the detriment of both the town and the schools. We just could not reduce our budgets any further. This year, the majority of the School Committee, the Board of Selectmen, and the Vice Chair of the finance committee all agree that this override is necessary. Much discussion about the override has been generated, some good and some not so good. However, now is the time to decide what you feel is in the best interest for the town, the school and for your family.

Therefore, please remember to vote on Tuesday, July 17th, 2018.

Sincerely,
Dr. Azar
Resident of Rehoboth,
Father of 2 D-R Student's and
Superintendent of Schools
