City of East Providence Honors Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day

(East Providence, RI) The City of East Providence will fly the Armenian flag on Wednesday, April 18th at 12:00PM in memory of the Ottoman Turkish government’s planned Genocide to eliminate the Christian Armenians during World War I. The annual flag-raising is to memorialize the 1.5 million Armenian men, woman and children who lost their lives during that period.
This year the Armenian National Committee of Rhode Island will be honoring Vartges Engustian who served as the City of East Providence’s Director of DPW from 1964-1990 and for whom the DPW complex is named.
The event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will follow the ceremony. For more information please contact the City Clerk’s Office at 401-435-7596.
