Posted

Members of the chorus of East Providence with director, Beth Armstrong were chosen to perform with the Kings Singers for their fiftieth anniversary reunion concert on Sunday, April 22 at Carnegie Hall by Distinguished Concerts International New York City (DCINY). Together with members of twenty two other choral groups from around the US and the world, they performed some original selections written by Bob Chilcott, a former member of the Kings Singers who also conducted this “choir of distinction “along with founding member, Simon Carrington.
Dr. Jonathan Griffith, Artistic Director and Principal Conductor for DCINY stated, “The Chorus of East Providence received this invitation because of the quality and high level of musicianship demonstrated by the singers as well as the exceptional quality of their audition recording. It is quite an honor just to be invited to sing in New York. These wonderful musicians not only represent a high quality of music and education, but they also become ambassadors for the entire community. This is an event of extreme pride for everybody and deserving of the community’s recognition and support.”
“Acclaimed worldwide for their virtuosity, life- affirming energy and charm, the six members of the male King’s Singers originating from Kings College in England, are in global demand. They tour regularly in Europe, North and South America, Asia and Australia. The group is known for their immaculate intonations, vocal blend, diction and incisive timing while their repertoire is one of the most diverse and compelling to include pieces from leading contemporary composers and arrangements from jazz standards to pop chart hits” according to DCINY. They are double award-winning artists and were recently voted into the Gramophone Hall of Fame.
Chorus of East Providence members prepared for their performance for more than a year. They spent five days rehearsing with other choristers and visiting the many sites in New York. The chorus members feel honored to have been chosen as one of the outstanding choral groups and will always remember “the thrill of performing at the auspicious Carnegie Hall with the Kings Singers.
