Calling All Bicyclers, Walkers, Roller Bladers to the 9th Annual Woony River Ride Bike-A-Thon

Posted

Providence — The 9th Annual Woony River Ride will take place on Saturday, September 15th, 2018. Get on your bike and explore the Woonasquatucket River (Woony) Greenway and beautiful RI apple country! The Woony River Ride’s routes offer plenty of beautiful views as you venture from Providence throughout northwest RI.

The Woony River Ride supports the Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council’s (WRWC) programs and projects:
• Youth programs like Red Shed Bike Camp and River Adventurers
• River and wildlife habitat restoration
• Building more Woony Bike Path and keeping it looking great
• Guided river paddles, walks, hikes and rides

All routes for the Woony River Ride begin and end at Waterplace Park in downtown Providence. Choose from five routes ranging from 5 to 60 miles in length, along with a 5-mile walk. The ride spans city, town and rural areas surrounding the Woony River. Riders will enjoy stunning scenery from Providence to North Smithfield.

This ride is fully supported and offers mechanic assistance and rest stops. It has the best after-party around with live music, local beer, food, and prizes for fundraisers.

Zack Green from WJAR is the 9th Annual Woony River Ride’s Honorary Chair. Green is the weekday meteorologist for NBC 10 News Sunrise, and the WRWC is glad to have him on board.

Registration is $45 for individual adults, $20 per family member for families, and $25 for youth 14 to 18. Fundraising is not required but strongly encouraged! The highest individual fundraisers will win prizes and the team that raises the most will win the coveted “Golden Herring Award.” Riders may also purchase a custom bike jersey ($70) or t-shirt ($15) to commemorate the event. Visit woonyride.org to register and buy shirts and jerseys. As a thank you, all riders who raise $500+ will receive a free jersey, and those who raise $100+ will receive a free t-shirt.

The WRWC invites everyone to come out and enjoy apple country, great views and challenge yourself at any level as you ride PVD West Side on September 15th.
