Books, Virtual Programs and More: Why eastprovidencelibrary.org is the place to be!

Spring cleaning? Recycle your electronics on Saturday, June 6th from 10am – 1pm at the Weaver Library located at 41 Grove Avenue, East Providence, RI. Fill your trunk with all kinds of electronics - computers, laptops, TVs, monitors, and recycle them at no charge! IndieCycle, LLC will be at the library to collect e-waste following strict Covid-19 guidelines. See the long list of what they take at http://indiecycle.blogspot.com. Did you know you that can use your library card to borrow free eBooks, audiobooks and videos? Check out the Ocean State Library’s eZone at https://riezone.overdrive.com or under the E-Library tab on our webpage. Get book ideas from the lists of titles that are constantly updated.

The library is launching a Virtual Tech Help Lunch Hour every Wednesday, beginning May 27th, from 11am- 12pm via Zoom. Topics include basic computing, Word and Excel overviews, troubleshooting Android devices or Apple programs, apps, and more. Registration is required. Wondering where your document went? Having issues reformatting a resume? Join us for an introduction to Microsoft Word on Friday, June 13th, 1pm -2pm via Zoom. Library staff will be available to answer questions as well as offer general advice to create beautiful and professional documents. All skill levels are welcome. Registration is required. Choose Your Own Nature Adventure in a 5-week series on Tuesdays, June 23rd through July 21st at 10am via Zoom. Explore trails in the East Providence area while discovering the beauty of nature. Meet virtually to share adventures and also to learn about common birds, plants, pond life, rocks and minerals. Trail suggestions and nature journal templates will be provided, or you may share your photographs, drawings, species lists, writing, show and tell or anything else you’d like to try! Mason Jar Mondays, a 5-week series begins on June 1st at 3pm and continues for the next four Mondays. Julia, a longtime patron of The Fuller Creative Learning Center, will demonstrate a new recipe every Monday that you can make right in a mason jar. Recipes will include ramen, oats, salads, breakfasts, and desserts. The link to register will be posted to the library's virtual event calendar or email fullercreativelearning@gmail.com.

The eBook and 2020 Reading Across RI selection Rising: Dispatches from the New American Shore by Elizabeth Rush is available to download on eZone until June 13th without any wait times. Library book club members are invited to join Joyce May for a discussion of Rising on Thursday, June 11th at 2pm or 7pm. Email eplibraryjoyce@yahoo.com for a Zoom invitation to either session.

We have exciting news! The Weaver Library Farmers' Market will open on the lawn for our seventh season on Thursday, July 9th at 4pm and continue on Thursdays through September 24th. The market will follow reopening guidelines developed by the RI Department of Environmental Management and the RI Department of Health. Watch for weekly updates.

Other upcoming Weaver lawn programs include a weekly 6pm Introductory Yoga class starting on Monday, June 22nd and a weekly 8am Introductory Sheng Zhen* class starting on Friday, June 26th. The library continues to offer books, DVDs and more for adults and families with a contact free, appointment only takeout program. Order items by calling Weaver Library at 401-434-2453 Monday - Thursday, 9-5 or Riverside Library at 401-433-4877 Monday - Tuesday, 9-5 or by using the online form on our website. Search the library catalog for available items at either Weaver or Riverside Libraries. A library staff member will assist you in scheduling a day and time for contact free pick up in the entryway of either library. Please note: Weaver items must be picked up at the Weaver Library and Riverside items at the Riverside Library.
