(June 6, 2019) – Go into the field on an insect investigation to net and identify some awesome bugs or head out in the evening to watch for fireflies. If the shore is more to your liking, head down with an expert guide and look for crabs and other marine life. Bring the kids outside with Audubon this summer - let them discover all that nature has to offer!

Citizens Bank Free Family Fun Day

Thanks to Citizens Bank, the Audubon Nature Center and Aquarium is open free to the public the first Saturday of every month. Join us for crafts, nature stories, animal discoveries, hikes and more. No need to register!

Audubon Shore Hike

Take a guided walk to the seashore and use nets and buckets to look for marine life. Come dressed in sturdy shoes that can get wet, wear sunscreen, and bring a water bottle. Adults must accompany children. (Weather dependent.)

Fireflies
Audubon Powder Mill Ledges Wildlife Refuge, Smithfield, RI
July 12, 2019; 7:00 – 9:00 pm

Come to Audubon for an evening celebrating the living lightshow that is the firefly. Learn about how they use their flickering lights to communicate and how to recognize them during the day. Make a glowing firefly craft to take home and end the evening by going out to the fields to watch for their blinking displays. Rain date is July 13, 2019.

Nature Scavenger Hunt at Caratunk
Audubon Caratunk Wildlife Refuge, Seekonk, MA
July 14, 2019; 1:00 – 3:00 pm

Great summer fun for families! Start at the barn and wander the refuge in search of scavenger hunt items. Take pictures and collect a prize when you have finished. Different levels of the hunt will be available. Be sure to bring a digital camera (or mobile phone), water and dress appropriately.

Bird Banding with Audubon
Audubon Nature Center and Aquarium, Bristol, RI
July 20, 2019; 9:30 – 11:30 am

Join Audubon for a bird banding demonstration. Birds will be gently removed from tall “mist nets” set in Audubon’s shrubby habitats. The techniques of identifying, measuring, weighing, and banding the birds will be demonstrated before they are released. The migratory habits and life history of each captured species will be discussed.

Catchin' Bugs!

Come discover what lives in the meadow on a lazy summer's day! Audubon will have nets and magnifiers and other fun items to explore with. Look for flowers and butterflies, insects, birds, toads and other critters that live in the meadow. Bring sunscreen and insect repellent and wear a hat, lightweight long pants, socks and closed-toe shoes.
