“Board members are the fiduciaries who steer BBBSOS towards a sustainable future and ensure that the organization has adequate resources to advance our mission. Members of the Board of Directors lead community members to support the mentoring movement. Liz Catucci and Mike Thomas are excellent additions to the BBBSOS Board. Specifically, Liz brings marketing and business development expertise and Mike brings business operations acumen,” said Executive Director Katje Afonseca.

Liz Catucci

Catucci holds a Bachelors Degree from Providence College and is Director of Marketing and Business Development at Batchelor, Frechette, McCrory, Michael & Co. where she has been an asset for over 5 years. Liz’s role has allowed her to spread brand awareness and develop a strong community presence for the organizations she has worked with which she looks forward to continuing with BBBSOS. Liz has been involved with BBBSOS for the past three years serving on various fundraising committees. She is very active in the business community, serving on the Executive Council of the Northern RI Chamber of Commerce and on the Board of the Providence College Alumni Association. Liz is also actively involved with the New England Business Association, the Business Value Forum and the Lady Project among other professional service organizations.

"I am so honored to be part of this great board and amazing organization. Over the past few years, I have been proud to support BBBSOS and the important work that it does. I am especially excited to join now as the organization strengthens its enrollment process to ensure even more quality mentoring relationships for the youth of Rhode Island." said Catucci.

Michael Thomas

Thomas is Director of Supply Chain of Amgen in West Greenwich and has over twenty years of experience in the biotech industry. Thomas holds a Bachelors of Science from the California Lutheran University and a Masters of the Arts from the University of Phoenix. He currently leads a team of over 40 staff accountable for all supply chain function activities, which resulted in over $6.7 billion in sales in 2016.

In 2017, Thomas and his team received the Supply Chain Excellence Award from Providence Business News.

“I am thrilled to bring my expertise to the Board of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Ocean State. I’m looking forward to helping BBBSOS in any way that I can to achieve their goal of providing mentor access to all of Rhode Island’s children in need, and I am honored to be representing Amgen; we as an organization are dedicated to ensuring each child participating in our Beyond School Walls partnership can reach their fullest potential,” said Thomas.

Amgen currently hosts a ‘Beyond School Walls’ mentoring program where local students are brought to their facility on a weekly basis to take part in STEM curriculum where mentors and mentees bond over their shared love for science. The program, now in its third year, has been a great success for both Amgen and BBBSOS.

BBBSOS is the state’s leading mentoring organization supporting hundreds of children throughout Rhode Island for over 50 years. Anyone interested in mentoring a child or donating to support the program can visit the agency’s website www.BBBSOS.org, call (401) 921-2434, Ext. 101, or email mentoring@bbbsos.org.
