Arts in the Village Opens 17th Season with the Prometheus Duo

The Arts in the Village Concert Series opens its 17th season on Saturday, October 7, with a performance by the Prometheus Duo, which is making its first appearance in the series. Pianist Marko Stuparevic and saxophonist Joseph Abad will present an international program with pieces originating from Spanish, Turkish, Romanian, and Connecticut roots. Their selections from Manuel de Falla, Erberk Eryilmaz, Bela Bartok, and American Stephen Gryc will showcase the finesse and lasting power of this unique medium.

Marko Stuparevic has appeared in numerous concerts and festivals in the US, Israel, France, Serbia, Iceland, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Montenegro, and Slovakia as a solo performer and chamber musician. He has won top prizes in the Dimitar Nenov, Petar Konjovic, American Protégé, Nikolai Rubinstein competitions and many other international piano contests. As a result, Mr. Stuparevic performs regularly as a concerto soloist, including concerts with the Razgrad Philharmonic, the Symphony Orchestra of the Army House of Serbia, the National Symphony of Bulgaria, and the Connecticut Valley Symphony Orchestra. He has also performed as a member of the 20/20 Chamber Music Honors Program, the Vagus Trio, HICO, the Foot in the Door Ensemble, the Elements Ensemble, with the Dahlia Duo, Celesti Sondato, and 016. Most recently, he has performed in the Women’s New Music Festival (Hartford), the Tel Hai Festival, and the LaMama Moves Festival in New York City alongside the principal Martha Graham dancer, Miki Orihara. Mr. Stuparevic is currently pursuing his Doctoral degree (DMA) at The Hartt School of Music.

Joseph Abad is a contemporary, classical saxophonist and educator based in the Hartford, Connecticut, area. As a concerti soloist, Mr. Abad has enjoyed collaborating with the Connecticut Valley Chamber Orchestra, the Hamden Symphony Orchestra, the Hudson Valley Chamber Winds, The Hartt School Wind Ensemble, The Hartt Symphony Orchestra, the University of California (Davis) Symphony Orchestra, and the University of California (Davis) Wind Ensemble. As a chamber musician, Mr. Abad has had the pleasure of performing in 16 states, alongside performances and recitals in Japan, Italy, and Iceland. From 2012 to 2016, he was the soprano saxophonist of the Hartford-based Asylum Quartet. Mr. Abad holds music degrees from the University of California at Davis (BM) and Arizona State University (MM). In 2013, he received an Artist Diploma in Saxophone Performance from The Hartt School of Music. He is currently an Endorsed Artist of Forestone Reeds.
This concert will take place on Saturday, October 7, at 7:30 p.m., at Goff Memorial Hall, 124 Bay State Road, in Rehoboth, MA 02769. Admission is $18 for adults, $16 for seniors, and $8 for students and children. Season subscriptions are still available.
