150th Anniversary Thanksgiving Event

Posted

Centenary United Methodist Church’s 150th Anniversary Celebration continued with a Thanksgiving Service on November 22, 2015, for which most attendees dressed in attire from the 1865-70 period.

The Order of Worship reflected the order used at that time, as found in the archives at Centenary. The hymns sung were especially popular then.

Quotations from previous pastors were included. Especially meaningful was one from Rev. George Brightman dated December 16, 1893. “We are Methodists because on the whole we believe that we can do the most good through this branch of God’s church.”

A Turkey Dinner followed in the dining hall with an Anniversary Toast, and side-dishes and desserts that are favorites of members, with some recipes from the 1800s.

More events will follow early in 2016, beginning with a Ladies’ Snowflake Luncheon, as their Anniversary Year concludes in March 2016.
