Seekonk — Superintendent Rich Drolet, on behalf of the Seekonk Public Schools’ District Leadership Team, School Committee and the Aitken Expansion Building Committee, is pleased to share a virtual tour of Aitken Elementary School's new building expansion.

Aitken Elementary School's newly-completed expansion boasts a new, state-of-the-art wing with a 10-classroom and seven-bathroom addition. The wing also features a new preschool playground outside and a makerspace as one of the ten classrooms inside.

"I would like to thank the members of the Aitken Expansion Building Committee, the Seekonk School Committee, Seekonk Educators Association and the Town of Seekonk Board of Selectmen for their conscientious support in bringing this project to fruition," Superintendent Drolet said. "Without all of their dedication and tireless efforts, this project wouldn't have been possible."

In Spring 2019, the Town of Seekonk voted in favor of supporting this addition to assist the district with its increasing need for additional space in the district's two elementary schools. With this new addition, the district will be able to maintain its smaller class sizes, accommodate special programming, and ultimately provide students with the personalized learning and academic rigor that Seekonk families have come to value in Seekonk's extraordinary school district.

"It's really exciting to be reaching the completion of this amazing expansion project," Aitken Expansion Building Committee Chair Jackie Proulx said. "The end result is an outstanding educational facility that will provide our students and our teachers with the space, equipment and a variety of settings in which to thrive."

Seekonk Public Schools is also pleased to report that the building expansion at Aitken Elementary School was finished ahead of schedule and significantly under budget.

"I'd like to thank the School Committee, the School Building Committee, Finance Committee and Board of Selectman, and of course all of the taxpayers who funded and invested in this important asset," said Kim Sluter, School Committee Chair and Aitken Expansion Building Committee member.

Seekonk Public Schools community members will have the opportunity to view the building expansion in person at an Open House event expected to be held later this summer. Additional details about this event will be provided at a later date.
