(August 8, 2017) – Bring the kids for Raptor Weekend and get up close with eagles, owls, falcons and other amazing birds of prey. Let an Audubon naturalist introduce you to the amazing adaptations of the eastern box turtle or enjoy an early autumn walk in search of other wild critters. Go ahead, get the kids outside and enjoy the warm weather while it lasts!

Citizens Bank Free Family Fun Day

Thanks to Citizens Bank, the Environmental Education Center is open free to the public the first Saturday of every month. Join us for crafts, nature stories, animal discoveries, hikes and more. No need to register.

Franklin is the resident eastern box turtle at the Environmental Education Center. Come celebrate his birthday — the day he hatched! Meet Franklin and learn all about these awesome turtles.

End the summer with Audubon! Come to the Environmental Education Center and enjoy crafts, a nature hike, games and more. No registration is required.

Raptor Weekend
September 9 & 10, 2017; 10:00 am – 4:00 pm

Eagles, Owls, Hawks, and Falcons, formidable and magnificent predators of the sky, are headed to Bristol, Rhode Island. Razor-sharp talons, extraordinary strength, hooked beaks and highly developed eyesight and hearing make raptors the rulers of the avian world.

This September they will be descending on the Audubon Society of Rhode Island’s Environmental Education Center in Bristol, Rhode Island for Raptor Weekend 2017. Wildlife rehabilitators and experts from across the Northeast will bring a wide variety of these extraordinary birds to the largest raptor celebration in New England. Enjoy live flight demonstrations, educational programs and activities for bird enthusiasts of all ages.

Audubon presents a unique opportunity for visitors to get up-close with many species and learn about amazing birds of prey in this fun, family-friendly weekend event.
General Admission:
Adult: $16
Child (ages 4 - 12): $11
Children under age 3 are free

Tales and Trails

Join us for an hour-long story time and trail exploration just for preschoolers. Learn about the local animals that live in the habitats on the wildlife refuge - and maybe even spot a few! Come dressed for the outdoors.
- September 13, 2017 - Searching the Butterfly Garden
Learn all about the life of a butterfly. Listen to the story of “Clara Caterpillar” and meet some real caterpillars found on the wildlife refuge. Then head out to the butterfly garden to learn about the special plants that help feed caterpillars and butterflies. Can you spot a tiny monarch egg hidden in the milkweed?

Junior Naturalists for Home-schooled Families

Our popular home-school program now lasts an hour and a half! We’re making time for more outdoor exploration, so come dressed for the weather. Join other home-schooled kids to learn about nature and science. This program will introduce participants to a different topic each class, with hands-on experiments and nature-based activities that are sure to foster a love of the natural world. Classes are limited to 15 children, so please register early. Adult must attend with child.

Explore Prudence Island
Prudence Island, RI

Come explore the incredibly rich diversity of wildlife, ecosystems and history on Prudence Island. This is a great way to experience Prudence for the first time. We will make several stops and take a few short walks at a leisurely pace. This is one of the most beautiful times of year to visit Prudence Island – so take a ferry ride and join our exploration!

Li'l Peeps

This popular program introduces children ages 18 months to 2 years to the delights of nature through age-appropriate, hands-on activities. Along with a nature lesson, activities may include nature walks, crafts, songs and stories. This is also a wonderful opportunity to make new friends with other children and parents. Registration is required as space is limited and fills very quickly. Adults must accompany children and there are no refunds for missed classes. In order to maintain an age-appropriate program we ask that older siblings not accompany the parent/child team.

Equinox Hike
Audubon Caratunk Wildlife Refuge, Seekonk, MA

Explore the autumn beauty of the Caratunk Wildlife Refuge. Stroll through the fall wildflowers and the colorful foliage and see what critters might be out and about. Wear sturdy closed toe shoes and dress for the weather. For children ages 8 and up.

Museum Day Live!

The Audubon Environmental Education Center will join participating museums and cultural institutions nationwide to open their doors free of charge for the Smithsonian Museum Day Live! As part of a journey to celebrate our world’s dynamic heritage and cultural life, participating Museum Day venues mirror the free admission policy of the Smithsonian Institution’s Washington, D.C.-based facilities. Preschool Adventures

Nature comes alive for preschoolers ages 3 to 5. Children enjoy games, hikes, crafts, songs, hands-on activities and more as they are introduced to the wonders of nature. Space is limited to 12 children so please register early. Adults must accompany children and there are no refunds for missed classes. Younger siblings are not permitted to attend.
