Attleboro, MA, January 9, 2018 – Sturdy Memorial Foundation, Inc., the not-for-profit parent organization of Sturdy Memorial Hospital and Sturdy Memorial Associates, held its annual meeting last evening at the Hospital.
Nine members of the community were elected to the Foundation -- Justin Alexander, Matthew Allen, David Boucher, Kimberely Cohen, Frank Cook, Kevin Dumas, Robin Organ, John Reilly, and Paul Schleicher.
Members and guests attending the meeting were told that the Hospital had maintained its positive financial status for the 32nd consecutive year. The bottom line attributable to the current year operations for the Foundation, including the Hospital and Associates for fiscal year 2017 was $2,232,000. Operating expenses for the year totaled $221,628,620 million, which included $4.8 million in uncompensated care for services provided to those who could not or would not pay.
In his fourth annual report as President and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Bruce Auerbach highlighted noteworthy accomplishments from Fiscal Year 2017, including the opening of the Mildred McCann Balfour Unit, acquisition of new medical technology, recruitment of talented medical providers, and the opening of two new physical structures—South Attleboro Urgent Care and Sturdy Memorial Associates at Plainville and Urgent Care.

“Our success is due to the tireless efforts put forth by every individual working together to care for our patients and the efforts of those who support and facilitate our caregivers,” stated Auerbach. “Sturdy’s leadership recognizes the vital work of our care teams as demonstrated by our investments in state of the art technology and facilities. We view these investments as ways to advance our care to better serve our patients. Sturdy is committed to providing a continuum of care services that’s equivalent to care provided at larger metropolitan systems, right here in our local community.

Established on April 14, 1913, Sturdy Memorial Hospital is an independent, full-service, not-for-profit, acute care community hospital, serving southeastern Massachusetts and nearby Rhode Island.
