With springtime weather finally here, what better way for sports fans to enjoy the outdoors than taking in a couple of games. Rhode Island Interscholastic Athletics offers many opportunities for student-athletes to compete. It's a sunny, comfortable day and East Providence High School will be active in three entertaining contests.

At 3:30 PM the Townie boys tennis team will face a talented Prout High squad at East Providence High School. Coach Paul Amaral is enthusiastic about coaching young people and these Townies will provide an entertaining and competitive match.

The girls softball team will take on a tough Moses Brown team at M. Brown today at 4:00 PM. The Townies are in the thick of divisional play in good position heading toward playoff action. Veteran Coach Rob Traverse always has his Townies ready and an exciting game is anticipated.

The Townie baseball team is at the end of a long stretch of tough games. Since May 1st, East Providence has played six (6) games against good Division I teams. In that stretch East Providence defeated Johnston, Coventry, Hendricken, Cranston East and LaSalle. Because of rain dates and a school Prom on this Friday, the Townies will play again today (Thursday) against playoff bound Cumberland High.

Today's game is at Pierce Stadium at 4 PM. "It will be a big test for our guys today," said Townie coach Bobby Rodericks. "Our top two pitchers (Ben Sears,Seth Daly) have both pitched a lot recently. Sears threw a complete game shutout against LaSalle yesterday and Daly just pitched a complete game win against Cranston East," said Rodericks. "Playing back to back games, we will have to pitch someone else tonight. We have some choices to step up and we'll decide later today. It will certainly challenge us today. We'll all have to step it up," said the coach. The Townies sit atop Division I in First Place with a 10-2 record.
