Michael Berry Seeks the Republican Nomination for the Bristol Norfolk State Senate Election

Posted

Dear Editor:

For years, the city and towns within our Bristol & Norfolk state senate district have been served admirably by full-time legislators. No matter the politics or party label, honorable individuals like Senator James Timilty and Senator Jo Ann Sprague exemplified the ethos of public service: put families first and focus on the interests of your constituents, not your own.

I’ve been lucky enough to practice that same philosophy as a member of the Walpole Board of Selectmen and School Committee. I’m a proud graduate of my town’s public school system, and it trained me to meet the high standards that Walpole expects of its elected representatives.

I’m running for State Senator because I believe public office should be about representing the working families of this district on a full-time basis. If elected, you can rest assured that I will be voting on matters like pension investments, insurance, taxes, health care, and regulatory matters without any expectation of a reward in return.

To make this clear, I pledge if elected to immediately file legislation that strictly prohibits sitting lawmakers from working with or appearing before state, county or municipal agencies on behalf of private clients. One does not have to look far to find recent examples of Massachusetts state senators and representatives who have blurred the lines between public service and private employment. That’s not why we elected them to do their job.

During this campaign, I will seek to earn voters’ trust by letting them know that the words “reform” or “transparency” are not just political buzz words. With your help, I’m running to deliver that message to Beacon Hill.

Michael Berry is a former local official from the Town of Walpole and is seeking the Republican nomination for the Bristol Norfolk State Senate election.
