Governor Tightens the Reins - All Schools Closed Through April.

Distance Learning to Continue. Residents urged to stay inside as much as possible

The end of March saw a grim Rhode Island Governor Gina Raimondo tighten her previously ordered restrictions due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Raimondo ordered all public schools to remain physically closed and to continue Distance Learning through the end of April. Residents are asked to “stay at home,” in place until further notice. All residents are being asked to “Go to work if you can’t work at home, but come right home and stay there,” said the Governor. All social gatherings of more than 5 people are banned until further notice. EP playgrounds and parks are all closed to the public. Things are starting to look grim for school to open buildings and resume traditional classes this year. That decision has not been made yet. "I won’t sugarcoat this. There is nothing easy about this," Raimondo said. "As I said at the beginning of this, some learning is better than no learning." Raimondo said it’s possible that virtual learning could be kicked into May. “I am taking an incremental, day-by-day, week-by-week approach."

The number of coronavirus cases continues to rise. Since yesterday (Sunday) that number has increased by 115. The total statewide is now at 408 positive cases. East Providence has 12 confirmed cases with several more people believed to be self-quarantining. As of today, there have been 4 deaths reported by the RI health department.
