David T. Proia

David T. Proia, 63, of Seekonk, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 23, 2017 in the Rhode Island Hospital, Providence, RI. He was the loving husband of Mary (Cote) Proia of Seekonk for the past 30 years.

Born on January 8, 1954 in Attleboro, he was a son of the late Mario and Virginia (Perry) Proia.

David grew up in Attleboro and was a 1972 graduate of Attleboro High School. He then attended Northeastern University where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice in 1978. David then joined the Attleboro Police Department in 1978 and proudly served as a policeman for 31 years, retiring at the rank of Captain in 2009.

David was a member of the Benevolent and Protective order of Elks Lodge #1014 in Attleboro and he also served as a board member for New Hope, where he continuously fought against domestic violence. He enjoyed walking his best buddy “Holly” and was an avid fan of all the New England sports teams.

In addition to his wife, David is survived by his two sons, William (Bill) Proia and his wife Alyssa of Colorado Springs, CO and Joseph (Joe) Proia and his companion Deanna Fournier both of North Attleboro; a brother, Michael Proia of Attleboro and many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Friday, May 26, from 4 to 8 pm in the Duffy-Poule Funeral Home, 20 Peck St. Attleboro.

A funeral will be conducted on Saturday, May 27 at 9am from the Duffy-Poule Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in St. John the Evangelist Church, 133 North Main St., Attleboro. Burial will follow in the St. John’s Cemetery, Attleboro, MA.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice in David’s memory.
