August Programs for Mass Audubon's Oak Knoll Wildlife Sanctuary

Family Pond Exploration

What interesting animals live in our local ponds and waterways? Join us as we get hands on and explore Oak Knoll’s aquatic habitats. Equipment is provided. Please dress for muddy conditions.

Saturday Morning Storytime
Date August 4th, September 1st
Time 10:00am to 11:00am
Audience: Families with 1-6 years old
Members: Free
Nonmembers: Free
Join our teacher naturalist each month as we read a fun story and then play a nature game, explore the sanctuary or meet one of our animals! The August 4th program will be based on the Tale of Peter Rabbit. Programs run rain or shine.

Bat Bonanza
Date August 9th
Time 6:30pm to 8:00pm
Audience: All Ages Welcome
Members: $5

Come discover an incredible and yet still misunderstood animal, bats! We will start the night exploring their adaptations and then conclude with an exploratory hike.

Scat Hike
Date August 23rd
Time: 6:30 to 8:00pm
Audience: All Ages Welcome
Members: $5
Nonmembers: $7

Everybody poops. But, what an animal leaves behind can tell scientists a lot of valuable information. Join us as we discuss what scat tells scientists, how to identify the scat of different animals, and then explore our trails to see if we can find some!

Family Fun Nights

Every month we will feature a different animal or nature theme. Come visit us and enjoy a special night out for the entire family! Our upcoming theme,

August 25th: Creepy, Crawly, and Cool

Our Family Nights will feature all sorts of fun activities for the entire family. One month may find us creating a craft. Or, we may play a nature game. Or, we could even have a special encounter with one our ambassador animals, all while enjoying a movie!

Oak Knoll’s Art Night (Wildflowers)
Date August 16th
Time 5:30pm to 7:30pm
Audience: 21+ only
Members: $35
Nonmembers: $40

Enjoy an evening with fun and colorful chalk pastels with local artist Abby Rovaldi. Discover the basics of pastels such as mark-making, shading and blending while experimenting with various traditional and innovative techniques. Participants will relax with a drink and create a finished pastel drawing of wild flowers to take home. 21+ only. Pre-Registration is required and this program is limited to 20 people.


Sunset Hike
Date July 27th, August 24th
Time 7:30 to 9:00pm
Audience: 18+ Only
Members: $8
Nonmembers: $10

For those 18 and over, come join our naturalist as you enjoy a nice leisurely stroll on our trails. We will spend our time looking for interesting wildlife and exploring why the nighttime is the best time for animals. Snacks provided. Please bring a flashlight.
