Town Clerk's Corner

Posted

Dog license renewals were due March 31st, so if you have not licensed your dog yet, please come in or do it through the mail. By our count, there are many dogs still not currently licensed for 2015. After May 29th (we close at noon on Fridays), a $20.00 late fee will be imposed on all dog license renewals.

We also ask that you send in your census form. There are many of those missing also. It is important for counts for the schools and for voting purposes. Please, if you have not done so yet, check the information on the form, make any corrections, sign and date it and send it to Town Hall.

With 2016 bringing four elections, the State will be asking town clerks to inactivate voters for various reasons. If you do not answer your census, you could be made an inactive voter and have to show ID at the polls and fill out paperwork in order to vote. This can be avoided by returning your census annually. The State wants voting lists to be up to date and accurate, especially during a Presidential election year.

Town meeting is scheduled for Monday, June 15th at 7:00 PM at the Seekonk High School on Arcade Avenue. This is the meeting where the budget for the next fiscal year is discussed and voted on. Registered voters from Seekonk are the ones who can vote on the articles on the warrant. Last day to register to vote at the town meeting is May 26th.

The Town of Seekonk lost several residents the past couple of weeks who worked either at the polls or at town meeting. Nancy Wolfe was a checker at town meeting for many years, passed away. She was involved in the town and was a wealth of Seekonk history. Also, Bob Sellers, who worked as a poll worker at elections, also passed away. Joe Motta, another poll worker passed away this past week. Al Smith, who was on the Board of Health and also worked for the Water Department passed away. All of these individuals were involved in the Town of Seekonk either on boards or committees. They all will be missed.

Save a Pet is starting to make plans for the annual craft fair at the Middle School. The date is Saturday, September 12th. More information will be coming out after the first meeting of the committee on June 3rd. We will be looking for crafters who want to sell their items. Also, white elephant tables are also welcome.

We are taking orders for the K-9 shirts that Adam Laprade is selling to support the K-9 program. Kilo even delivered some of the shirts to Town Hall last week. He is such an asset to our police department and the sale of the shirts helps support this great team. Shirts are $15.00 and can be purchased at the Public Safety Building also.

Enjoy the nice weather. Think we all earned it after the cold, snowy winter.
