It’s a Big Pumpkin Party! Audubon Society of Rhode Island October 2016 Programs and Events for Children and Families

(September 7, 2016) – Join the fun at the Perfect Pumpkin Party – try pumpkin bowling, pumpkin golf, pumpkin art and more! Audubon provides plenty of fright-free family fun in October. Just grab your fleece jacket and go!

Rummage Sale and Family Nature Activities

After 16 years, the Audubon Environmental Education Center has too much stuff! Field guides, children’s books, gift shop surplus, office supplies and other items will be looking for a good home. Help us recycle, reuse and reduce by purchasing a treasure at our Refuge Rummage Sale. All proceeds benefit the Audubon Environmental Education Center. While you’re here, enjoy fun family activities throughout the day. No registration is required.

Build-A-Bog Family Workshop

Carnivorous plants use tricks and traps to catch their dinner! Join experts from the New England Carnivorous Plant Society and build your own bog filled with these fascinating plants. Families will work together to design and plant their own potted bog using a variety of local plants.

Prudence Island has several miles of hiking trails that cover a wide range of habitats from forested wetlands to coastal meadow and pine barrens. Join us for a beautiful fall hike. Pace will be moderate and cover 3 to 4 miles over a mix of terrain. Trails are well maintained. For children ages 10+.

Bring a snack and relax while an Audubon naturalist reads a nature story. Then create a unique work of art from different recyclable materials and found objects. October 18 & 19, 2016 Junior Naturalists for Home-schooled Families

NEW- Audubon’s popular home-school program now has extended class time. That means more time for outdoor exploration, so dress for the weather!
Join other home-schooled kids to learn about nature and science. This program introduces participants to a different topic each class, with hands-on experiments and nature-based activities that are sure to foster a love of the natural world. Classes are limited to 15 children, so please register early. Adult must attend with child.
October 18 and 19, 2016: Seed Adaptations

Come explore the incredibly rich diversity of wildlife, ecosystems and history on Prudence Island. The walking trails are fairly easy to moderate terrain. This is one of the most beautiful times of year to visit Prudence Island! For children ages 10+.

October 29, 2016 The Perfect Pumpkin Party

Join Audubon for a different kind of pumpkin celebration and find out just how much fun a pumpkin can be. Try your hand at pumpkin golf, pumpkin ring-toss and pumpkin art! Buy a pumpkin from our "patch" and decorate it with fun art supplies. Children in costume will receive a special prize! Dress for mess. No need to register.
