Boneyard Barbecue Restaurant Damaged by Fire
In early March, a fire at Boneyard Barbecue Restaurant in North Seekonk, caused damages in the amount of $75,000 to $80,000 according to an article in the Sun Chronicle. The fire reportedly started in the rear of the building and spread inside. Owners estimated that it could take months for the restaurant to reopen.

Questions Surround Seekonk Police Chief’s Absence from Work
Police Chief Frank John was not at work for about three weeks in March and officials would not comment on the reason for his absence, according to a Sun Chronicle article and NBC 10 News report. Officials said they could not comment on “personnel matters.” John took over in September from former Chief Craig Mace, who retired after serving 33 years for the department. John has served the department for 32 years. At press time, there was no word on whether the chief has returned to work.

Seekonk High Graduate Runs Second-Fastest Indoor Mile
Seekonk High Graduate Johnny Gregorek achieved the second-fastest time ever recorded indoors in the mile by an American, according to a Sun Chronicle article. Gregorek, 27, had a time of3:49:98 at Boston University’s Bruce Lehane Invitational Meet last month. Alan Webb holds the American record in the mile running 3:46.91 in 2007. Gregorek, who also attended Columbia University in New York City, is ranked among the top 10 runners indoors or outdoors.

Seekonk High Senior is New England Indoor Shot Put Champion for Second Year
Senior Cameron Garabian won her second New England Indoor Championship title in the shot put last month, according to a Sun Chronicle article. Garabian also won her third consecutive indoor All-State title last month.

Two New Stores Opening at Bristol Place, South Attleboro
T.J. Maxx and Hobby Lobby are opening stores in Bristol Place, South Attleboro off Newport Avenue in the plaza where Market Basket and Bob’s Store are located, according to various media reports. The new stores will occupy the space where Kmart was located. T.J. Maxx opened on March 15. Hobby Lobby has not announced its opening date.

Expensive Bottle of Cognac Reported Stolen
A $4,000 bottle of Remy Martin Louis XII cognac was stolen from Chris Garbarro’s Fine Wine and Spirits in Seekonk last month, according to a Sun Chronicle article. The bottle was kept in a locked case and the alleged robber either picked the lock or used a key. Gasbarro’s is reportedly offering a $500 reward for information in the case. Anyone with information should contact the Seekonk Police department.
