Posted

Richard Allen “Chic” Costa, 71, of Seekonk passed away peacefully at home on June 8, 2017. He is survived and loved by his wife of nearly 50 years, Janet; four children — Michael Costa (Laureen), Cheryl Haynes (Ken), Ellen Butera (Adam), and Joseph Costa; eight grandchildren – Kate, Alex, Adam, Paul, Patrick, Laura, Charlie, and Christopher; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law – Lincoln Munro, Joset Munro, and Beverly Navach; many nieces and nephews; and many dear friends.

He was the son of the late Joseph and Phoebe (Gracia) Costa. He graduated from La Salle Academy and the University of Rhode Island. While at URI he was a member of Army ROTC; he later served in the Army Reserves.

Dick, as he was known professionally, retired after more than 30 years as Vice President of Operations for New England Container in Smithfield.

He was a member of the Bristol Yacht Club, the Knights of Columbus, and the Bristol Lodge of Elks, past co-chair of Bay View Academy’s Manhattan at the Bay, and a parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Seekonk.

Chic enjoyed music, tinkering with anything mechanical, tennis, watching the Pats and ‘Sox, and anything that gave him an excuse to be on the water.

Most of all, he was a loving and fun-loving father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. He will be missed dearly.

His funeral will be held on Monday at 9:00 AM from the PERRY-McSTAY FUNERAL HOME, 2555 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Taunton Avenue, Seekonk. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Calling hours Sunday 5-8. Flowers are appreciated, as would be gifts in memory of Richard Costa to the Jimmy Fund made via www.jimmyfund.org/gift.
