November is Picture Book Month
November is Picture Book Month, an international literacy initiative that celebrates the print picture book. Come into Seekonk Library throughout the month of November for special book displays, a unique I-Spy Bulletin Board, activity sheets, a raffle basket and more. We invite everyone (kids AND adults) to visit the library to discover new picture books or revisit some old favorites!

Morning Movie
Tuesday, November 8, 10 AM (no school Seekonk students)
Enjoy a movie that’s based on a very popular series of children’s books. We can’t say the title but the movie includes Mr. Piranha, Mr. Snake, Mr. Shark, Ms. Tarantula, and Mr. Wolf find as their lives of crime coming to an end as they face imprisonment. Determined to retain their freedom, the criminals band together to boost their public image and prove their goodness to their community with the help of their esteemed mentor, Professor Marmalade. Rated PG. Check seekonkpl.org for exact title. Running time 1hr, 40 minutes. Drop in.

Open Game Play with Virtual Reality
Tuesday, November 8, 1 - 4 PM(no school Seekonk students)
Calling all gamers age 8+! You're invited to a 3 hour gaming event where you play what you wish and have the freedom to move to any system and play any game. The event includes next-gen consoles, gaming monitors and all the popular games as well as classic and retro games, too. Systems include Nintendo Switch, XBox Series, PlayStation 4, Oculus Quest 2 (VR) Registration required.

America Recycles Day: Upcycle a Canvas Bag
Starts Tuesday, November 15
In celebration of America Recycles Day, families are invited to update (upcycle) a canvas tote bag. Registrants will receive a new canvas tote bag that is imprinted with an outdated logo. Using a bit of creativity and your own supplies, the task is to the hide or otherwise transform the logo which will result in your own personalized tote bag. Need ideas? Think paint, applique, iron-on transfers, sewn-on patches or ??? To reserve a tote bag, register in advance then stop by the library starting Tuesday, November 15, America Recycles Day, to pick it up. Join us for this enjoyable, all ages, family project! (supplies are limited). Registration required to reserve a bag.

Gratitude Jar Craft
Thursday, November 17, 4 PM
Make a gratitude jar! Gratitude jars are a very simple way to cultivate mindfulness and bring awareness to the good things in your life. In this program we'll create and decorate our own jars to reflect our tastes, then kids can take their jars home and add to them daily, or weekly by writing down what they are thankful for and putting it in their jar. Watching the jar fill up with all of the things they are grateful for can be a very positive experience! For grades 1-5. Register.


Ed’s Comedy Magic Show

Join magician Ed Popielarczyk for a highly interactive magic show filled with unique tricks, comedy, storytelling, and lots of high audience participation! Ed makes the kids the stars of the show and they’re the ones who make the magic happen! "Families will truly experience magic and storytelling like they never have before!" Suitable for families with children of all ages. Ed Popielarczyk is a professional magician, balloon sculptor, flea circus ringmaster, and storyteller who has been performing for over 35 years. Minecraft for Education Club
Tuesday, November 22, 29, December 6, 13 at 6:30 PM
It’s a Minecraft adventure! Utilizing Minecraft Education Edition, we'll meet weekly via Zoom and join Minecraft worlds together. Our focus is on teamwork to achieve building goals, and teaching one another how to navigate Minecraft. We visit Minecraft worlds such as deep oceans, Mars, Ancient Egypt, and more, learning along the way. Grades 3-5. Registration required.

Tools for Tiny Hands
Tuesday, November 29, 10 AM
Tools for Tiny Hands is a kit for children ages 2 to 5 and their adults. It’s filled with materials and ideas that will help children further develop and practice their fine motor skills. They are skills that children need for everyday life and for success in school." November 29 will be ‘Peel, Rip & Stick’. Designed in an atmosphere of play, children will stop at different stations throughout the room to experiment with hands-on activities involving stickers and tape. Families may arrive anytime after 10 AM. Children will be able to stay with an activity for as long as they wish with no pressure to move on to other activities until they want to. The program concludes at 11:30 AM. To be held Tuesdays, November 29 and December 13. Please register separately for one or both.

Storytimes
Seekonk Library storytimes focus on talking, singing, reading, writing and playing- important principles for your child’s reading readiness.

Baby & Toddler Storytime
Mondays, November 14, 28 at 10 AM
Join Miss Sharon for a weekly storytime designed for children birth - 36 months old. The storytime will include a book or two followed by music, fingerplays, movement and yes, even bubbles! Held indoors in the Library's Meeting Room. Siblings always welcome. No registration required. Please bring your SAILS Library card so your child may take storytime books home. November 14 will be a special Turkey Tales Storytime for Thanksgiving.

Preschool Storytime
Wednesdays, November 16, 30 at 9:30 AM
Miss Sandie will read 2 - 3 stories and children will complete a related activity. Siblings welcome. Registration is not required, but please bring your SAILS library card to check out books to take home. November 16 will be a special Turkey Tales Storytime for Thanksgiving.

Storytime on the Go
Starting Thursday, November 3
Create a storytime experience at home with Storytime On The Go packets. Each packet will include 6 books to check out plus an age appropriate early literacy activity.The early literacy activity will support one or more of the five early literacy practices: talking, singing, reading, writing and playing. Storytime On The Go packets are available for babies, toddlers or preschoolers- just choose the packet that's right for your child. Prefer to select your own items? Just choose 6 or more items to check out (picture books, juvenile nonfiction and/or juvenile magazines) then stop at the children's room desk to pick up an accompanying activity packet. For thai month, Storytime on the Go packets will be available starting Thursday, November 3. Drop in.
