New Mass. Law Changes Residential Recycling in Seekonk

Posted

On November 1, 2022, a new state law goes into effect, prohibiting mattresses and textiles from being thrown in the trash. These items must be held for recycling purposes. The town has purchased a container for mattress storage until the mattresses can be collected by a mattress recycling company. Full details are not yet available as the time this article goes to press. So we will publish the new process once all contracts are signed and in force. We have clothing collection bins at the town’s public schools and the DPW, and we encourage all residents to utilize local charities for donations. The aim is to keep these items out of the few remaining landfills in the state.

Thank you,
Bill Kirchmann
Recycling Coordinator
