Maurice “Moe” R. Messier, Sr., 85, passed away on Tuesday, July 17, 2018. He was the beloved husband of Janet M. (Hoffay) Messier for 64 years. Together, Moe and Janet would have celebrated 65 years this November. Born in Central Falls, he was a son of the late Henry and Florence (Grenier) Messier.

Moe was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War and worked at the L.G. Balfour Co., Attleboro for 35 years, retiring in 1997. He was a longtime member of the American Legion, Post 312, South Attleboro. In his youth, Moe participated on many local sport teams and later served as a football and basketball coach in the Town of Seekonk.

Besides his wife, Moe leaves a daughter, Mary F. Dewhurst and her husband, David, of Plainville, MA; two sons, Maurice R. Messier, Jr. and his wife, Mary, of Seekonk and Mark A. Messier and his wife, Irene, in New Jersey; two brothers, George Messier of Pawtucket and Conrad Messier of Rehoboth; a sister, Elaine Barboza of Seekonk; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Henry Messier.

His funeral with Military Honors will be held on Friday at 9 a.m. from William W. Tripp Funeral Home, 1008 Newport Ave., Pawtucket, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 948 Taunton Ave., Seekonk. Interment will be private. VISITATION will be Thursday, 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts to the Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH will be appreciated.
