Joseph Motta III, 58, of Greenbrier Apartments in Seekonk, Mass., died November 27 at his home. Born in Providence to the late Joseph Motta, Jr., and Donna (Ricci) Motta, Joe was loved dearly by all of his family and friends. Joe is survived by his loving brothers, Steven Motta and his wife Denise of Rumford, RI, and Gregory Motta of Cumberland, RI. He also leaves his beloved niece and nephews, Leah, Aidan, Ryan, and Shane, as well as an extended family of cousins, a group of close friends, and his cherished cat of many years, Murray.

Spending his entire childhood years in Seekonk, Joe graduated Bishop Feehan high school and attended Wagner College in Staten Island, NY, before graduating with a Bachelors of Arts from Worcester State College. A writer his entire life, he started his career writing for the Catholic Dioceses of Fall River’s paper, The Anchor. He then was a reporter and eventual editor of the Kent County Daily Times before working at Amica Insurance as a Senior Writer in their corporate communications department for 19 years until his retirement. Joe was recognized for his writing ability at all stages of his career including winning numerous national awards.

When not working, Joe spent his time dutifully taking care of his parents until their passing. He will be remembered by his family and friends as an avid writer, reader, and storyteller who loved to talk to everyone he met. Joe loved British television comedies, 70’s folk music and was always up for a game or singing karaoke with his friends. He was a loyal, caring, and generous person who will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, December 5, 2020 at 10:30 AM in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 984 Taunton Avenue, Seekonk. Burial will be in Seekonk Cemetery, Newman Ave, Seekonk, MA. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
