Joseph Caetano Mello Jr., 85, of Seekonk passed away on Thursday, October 29, 2020, at home surrounded by his loving family. Joe was born in Seekonk, MA to the late Joseph Caetano and Mary (Leiter) Mello.

He is predeceased by his wife of 35 years, Lucille Rose (Desmarais) Mello and his younger brother, Edward (Eddie) Mello of Seekonk. He is survived by his 4 children, Joseph Caetano Mello III, his wife Maureen and daughter Brianna of Rehoboth; Donna Jean Mello and her wife Kathleen Firlings of Worcester; Scott Henri Mello and his wife Katherine and children Emily and KG of Cumberland and Christopher Joseph Mello and children Sawyer and Beckett of Seekonk; his three brothers, Francis (Frank) Mello of Warren, Daniel (Danny) Mello of East Providence, and Arthur (Archie) Mello and his wife Marcia, of Seekonk; and many godchildren, nieces and nephews.

Joe resided his entire life in Seekonk and worked at Davol Inc. for 43 years. He was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus and coached many aspiring baseball players in Little League, Babe Ruth and the Farm League. He was an avid bowler and card shark. Joe had a passion for farming which began when he worked as a young man on his grandfather’s dairy farm. After retiring from Davol, Joe worked as part of the facilities crew at the Martin Elementary School in Seekonk.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday 11/5 at 10am in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, Taunton Ave., Seekonk. Burial will follow at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 4-7pm at the Rebello Funeral Home and Crematory, 901 Broadway, East Providence.

Following the COVID-19 guidelines of the RI Department of Health, 10 people including the family are permitted in the funeral home at any time. Masks and social distancing are required.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that contributions be made in Joe’s memory to Seekonk Council of Aging, 540 Arcade Ave., Seekonk or Bristol Elders Services, Inc. 1 Father DeValles Boulevard, Fall River.
