John A. Nunes, Sr., 90 years young passed away on May 3 surrounded by his loving children. John was born on January 15, 1928 in Seekonk, MA to the late Anthony and Mary (Oliveira) Nunes. John married the love of his life Cecilia (Direito) Nunes in 1950. They shared sixty beautiful years together until her passing in 2010.

John was raised on his parents dairy farm in North Attleboro, MA. The Nunes Dairy Farm at Level Acres Farm was where he developed his love of the outdoors. John was a true entrepreneur beginning his first business venture at the age of seventeen establishing the Nunes Oil Company, Incorporated in Tullos, Louisiana. In 1954 John and his family returned to North Attleboro, MA where he began Nunes Farms and years later Nunes Disposal which he owned until his retirement in 2002.

John and his family settled in Seekonk, MA creating a loving home that was the center of the family's activities. His spontaneous zest for life and laughter made every moment with him feel like a party. He loved spending time spoiling his children and many generations of grandchildren. Leaving each of them with precious memories and stories to be told for generations to come.

He loved traveling to Florida, going to the casino, listening to music, gardening and most of all he enjoyed life. John was a character, everyone who knew him up until his final moments shared in his innate sense of humor.

John is survived by his children, John Nunes, Jr and his wife Gail, Michael Nunes and his wife Susan and Cheryl Carlsten and her husband Scott, grandchildren Toni Lee Schlais and her husband Dean, John Nunes III, Stephanie Nunes, Danielle Zaccardi and her husband Dan, Emily Nunes, Amy Nunes and her fiancee Johnny Gregorek, Ashley Carlsten and Maxwell Carlsten, Great Grandchildren Jacob Schlais, Dean Schlais, Jamie Nunes, James Nunes, Andrew Nunes, Wyatt Nunes and Great-Great Grandson Gavin Nunes and his beloved dog Dusty.

His funeral will begin Wednesday, May 9, at 8:45am from the Rebello Funeral Home and Crematory, 901 Broadway, East Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 984 Taunton Ave., Seekonk, MA. Burial will follow at Mount Saint Mary Cemetery. Calling hours will be Tuesday 5pm until 8pm.
