High School Boys Basketball Sweet 16 Tournament: Townies vs. Lincoln, Thursday 6:30 pm at EPHS

Townies seek to rebound from divisional loss to Hendricken. Looking for State Championship.

The open Rhode Island Open Boys Basketball State Tournament begins this week at various sites. A Sweet 16 round game pits Lincoln High (16-2) against East Providence (13-5) this Thursday night, March 12th 6:30 pm at East Providence High School. The Townies made it to the final four in Divisional Championship play before losing out to Hendricken last week. The open tournament begins this week with most high schools eligible to play for the state championship.

Division I champion Hendricken is the number one seed ans plays the winner of the Rogers-Tolman game. In a surprise last year, Hendricken lost in state playoff action and North Kingstown was the eventual State Champion.

The winner of the East Providence-Lincoln game will play the winner of Mount Pleasant vs. East Greenwich. Quarterfinal Elite 8 action will be on Sunday, March 15th with several games being scheduled between the hours of 12, 2, 4 and 8 p.m. at CCRI in Warwick, RI.

The Final Four teams will play at the Ryan Center at the University of Rhode Island in Kingston on Saturday, March 21st. The final championship game will be played at URI on Sunday, March 22, 2020 at 6 pm.
