First Confirmed Positive Case of COVID-19 in Seekonk

Posted

The Seekonk Emergency Management Task Force was informed by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH) of a single positive case of COVID-19. The Board of Health received notification of the positive test result and has been in contact with the resident and MDPH. In order to protect the resident’s medical privacy rights, no additional information can be disclosed other than the resident is now self-quarantined.

“We received confirmation today from MDPH that a Seekonk resident has tested positive and is being quarantined. At this time, we have no reason to believe that any other families are at risk of exposure from the confirmed positive case. We want to reassure our residents that the Town is doing everything to ensure that our community remains safe and healthy during this time of stress and anxiety that the virus has caused us all,” said Town Administrator Shawn Cadime.

The Town fully expects and is preparing for the number of positive cases to rise as testing becomes more widely available. “Our public health and safety officials will continue their monitoring of the situation under proper established protocols. Knowing where the virus is will help us best respond to the spread. Today, we are relying on you, our residents, to help us slow the spread of the virus in our community. Our preparations have helped Seekonk stay ahead of this crisis - however, we are at a critical time now,” said Chief Healy. “Everyone must take the calls to action seriously and adhere to the guidelines and restrictions that have been put into place by the Federal, State, and Local government.”

The Board of Selectmen and the Emergency Management Task Force continues to monitor the COVID-19 developments on a daily base. We are committed to providing the community with timely information as best as possible.
