Communities See Surge in Covid Cases

Communities in Bristol County continue to see soaring rates of Covid, with a rash of new infections due to the highly contagious Omicron variant.

According to the Massachusetts Department of Health, Seekonk reported a daily positivity rate of 28.7 percent during the 14 day testing period which concluded on January 8. Rehoboth’s daily positivity rate was 26.69 percent. Dighton's daily positivity rate is 24.26 percent. In comparison, the statewide daily positivity rate is 21.52 percent. The 14 day average daily incidence rate for Seekonk is 202.9 per 100,000 residents. That figure is more than double than what was reported just one week earlier. Rehoboth also saw an increase to 176.4 per 100,ooo residents.

Nearby communities are faring even worse.

  • Dighton has a 14 day average daily incidence rate of 206.3 per 100,000 residents.
  • Swansea has a 14 day average daily incidence rate of 232.9 per 100,000 residents.
  • Fall River has a 14 day average daily incidence rate of 293.5 per 100,000 residents.

The daily positivity rate for Bristol County is 24.71 percent.

On January 4, all Seekonk town offices were closed to the public for the remainder of the month. The Seekonk Public Library is also closed. The Board of Selectmen are now meeting via Zoom.
