Anthony King Gomes “Tony King” age 90 of Seekonk, Ma, formerly of East Providence, RI passed away peacefully at his home on December 9, 2018.

He was married to the late Barbara M. Gomes for 43 years until she passed away in 1990. He was the long-term companion of the late Marjorie Lopez.

He was the son of the late James Gomes and Matilda (Tillie) King and step-son of the late Joseph King.
He was the father of the late Anthony J. Gomes and Wendy M. Gomes.

Tony King was born on June 13, 1928 in Providence. He was a resident of Fox Point before moving to East Providence, where he lived for 55 years.
He retired from the RI Lottery Commission in 1990. He was previously employed by the Diocese of Providence as a Director of Project Equality.
He was a well-respected member and past President of the Cape Verdean Progressive Center and was active in East Providence politics for several years.

He was an alumni of the Fox Point Boys and Girls Club and is a member of their Hall of Fame.

He is survived by his daughter, Linda Tavares and her husband Joseph Tavares, his beloved granddaughter, Stacey Olmo,
who he raised after her mother’s untimely passing, and her husband Luis Olmo, two sons, Steven Gomes, Richard Gomes and his companion Angela Fonseca.

He was the brother of Barbara Perry of Taunton, Ma, and the late John Gomes. He also leaves 8 grandchildren, Joseph Tavares, Scott Tavares, Taren Shorter and her husband Eric Shorter, Darice Collazo, Akeisha Corrie, Anthony McCabe and Ava Gomes, 10 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and his loyal dog Prince.

His funeral will begin Thursday, Dec. 13 at 9am from the Rebello Funeral Home, 901 Broadway with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am at St. Francis Xavier Church, 81 N. Carpenter St., both in East Providence. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Calling hours will be Wednesday, from 4-8pm.
