Aitken Elementary School Opens to the Public

Posted

On Saturday, Aitken Elementary School held an Open House to allow parents and students to tour the new wing, which features 10 classrooms and seven bathrooms.

There is also a new preschool playground outside, along with an outdoor classroom, and a maker space inside as one of the ten classrooms (a modern-day computer learning lab).

Seekonk School Superintendent Rich Drolet said the additional classrooms were needed to decrease class sizes.

State Rep. Steven Howitt, R-Seekonk, spoke at the ceremony, along with Drolet, school committee chair Kim Sluter, Aitken Elementary School Principal John Haidemenos, and Jackie Proulx, chair of the Aitken Expansion Building Committee.

“This is a celebration for the entire community and really an example of what community support looks like,” Sluter said.

Voters approved $10.5 million at a 2019 town meeting for the project, which was completed last June.
