Third Attleboro Firefighters Local 848 Member Hospitalized due to COVID-19
Attleboro — Attleboro Firefighters Local 848 confirmed today that another one of their Members tested positive for COVID-19 and has been hospitalized due to the severity of symptoms. To date, three Members have been hospitalized after testing positive for COVID-19. Two Members have been released after more than a week in the hospital with one of them still recovering at home. The third Firefighter was admitted to Sturdy MH last night due to the severity of COVID-19 symptoms and a number of other Firefighters have been Department Ordered Quarantined due to exposure. At this time Local 848 is unsure of the Injured on Duty (IOD) status of this and other Members affected by the coronavirus.
“Our Members are on the front lines of this pandemic,” Local 848 President Jacques said. “The circumstances experienced today are another example of the sacrifice and dedication our members show on a daily basis. The health and safety of our firefighters, their families and the residents of Attleboro remains our top priority. It is our hope that Mayor Heroux will follow the agreed to collective bargaining agreement and do the right thing to protect our Members.”
Local 848 has strong infectious disease presumptive language in their Collective Bargaining Agreement to cover Members affected by COVID and other exposures faced. Communications to the Mayor on these matters continue to be ignored. As the pandemic continues, with the support of Fire Chief Scott Lachance, Local 848 will continue to reach out to the Administration to resolve these issues for the safety of its Members and the residents they are obligated by oath to protect.
Attleboro Firefighters Local 848 Executive Board is in constant contact with those Members that tested positive, their families, and the entire Membership to ensure all necessary protective measures remain in place. The same level of professional service provided to the citizens of Attleboro has and will not change.
