Selectmen Stand By Town Hall Closure

Posted

The Rehoboth Board of Selectmen are standing by their decision to keep Town Hall closed due to the pandemic. The town website says: Many services are available online or you can place your documents in the drop box located in the parking area (148 Peck Street) for processing. Appointments for in-person assistance can be made by contacting the specific Department.

Town Administrator Deborah Arruda said Monday town hall was operational. Arruda said comments posted on social media which had accused town employees of not working were “hurtful.”

All town buildings were closed to the public when the coronavirus became a public health emergency in March 2020.  “We made the right choice,” said Selectmen Chairman Skip Vadnais. Selectman David Perry noted the closure was “an inconvenience.” “We’re all here to help,” Arruda said, noting residents were still accessing town services. “I haven’t seen any issue at all,” said Selectman George Solas.

Popular attractions such as the Blanding Library and the Carpenter Museum are open to the public on a limited basis.  Vaccinations are ongoing and as more residents receive doses in the next few months, officials hinted there is a possibility of reopening town offices. Vadnais said the board would discuss whether or not to re-open town hall in 30 days.
