Seekonk and Rehoboth to Hold Town Meetings

Seekonk and Rehoboth will be holding their fall town meetings the first week of December.

Rehoboth’s town meeting will be held December 1 at 7 pm in the ballroom at the Ramada Inn, 213 Taunton Avenue, in Seekonk. All of the articles are related to town finances, which will include setting the salaries of town officials such as the Board of Selectmen, the Town Clerk, the Town Treasurer, and the Tree Warden. One article calls for the appropriation from available funds the sum of no more than $19, 479, 237 to pay for the costs and expenses of the Dighton-Rehoboth Regional School District for the ensuing fiscal year. Another article calls for the appropriation of funds from the town’s insurance proceeds to design, construct, and furnish a new senior center. A fire destroyed the old facility at 55 Bay State Road on September 12. Attendees are required to wear masks and will be seated six feet apart.

Voters at Seekonk’s December 5 town meeting will be asked to approve a large number of expenditures, including $500,000 to fund the construction of an ADA compliant sidewalk, new curbing, and wooden guardrail along Arcade Avenue near the Senior Center.

Other items include:

  • Transfer from available funds that have been reserved for appropriation the sum of $144, 310 to fund the purchase and equipping of a Trackless Machine to be used by the Department of Public Works
  • Appropriating $50,000 for repairs and upgrades to the Public Safety building on Taunton Avenue.
  • The appropriation of $157,000 to fund the purchase and installation of guardrails, paving, landscaping and other site work at the Town Hall playground

The meeting will begin at 11 am in the auditorium at Seekonk High School, 261 Arcade Avenue.
