New Leadership for D-R School Committee
The Dighton-Rehoboth Regional School Committee has new leadership. Tom O’Connor, from Dighton, was elected as the new Chairperson at Tuesday’s meeting. Craig Chapman, from Rehoboth, was elected as the Vice-chairperson. George Solas, also from Rehoboth, was elected as the Secretary. Celeste Sullivan will serve as recording secretary and Gail Fisher will serve as Assistant Treasurer.
The Rehoboth Board of Selectmen voted to delay the June 30 town meeting due to continued uncertainty about the state budget. “Without town budgets voted by July 1st (the school district will) revert to a 1/12th Budget for the upcoming school year until such time as a budget is approved for both towns and the assessments are approved at town meetings,” O’Connor said.
“Fortunately for the District the increase going into next year is just .4 percent, very small.” O’Connor noted the district has already been operating under a 1/12th budget “so we're familiar with the nuances of what that entails and are prepared to operate in the 2021 school year the same way.”
