Posted

Mayor Bob DaSilva has issued an executive order closing the Robert Rock Senior Center immediately. “Per the Center for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines and Governor Raimondo and the RI Department of Health, the City of East Providence will shut down and cancel all activities at the City Senior Center. This will last for at least two weeks and possibly longer as more information develops. This action will be effective today, March 12, 2020,” said the Mayor in his executive order.

"The safety of the high-risk community and the community at large in mind during this World Health Organization (WHO)-declared pandemic involving the COVID-19 virus. Evidence shows that some people are at higher risk of getting very sick from this virus. High risk individuals include older adults (60 years or older), who have serious chronic medical conditions including heart disease, diabetes or lung disease.

The CDC and Prevention guidelines state that anyone 60 years or older or those having underlying conditions, not attend events with 10 people or more. Per Gov. Gina Raimondo and the Rhode Island Department of Health’s guidance, the City of East Providence is cancelling all activities at the Senior Center effective immediately and until further notice, per Center for Disease Control & Prevention guidelines," said Mayor DaSilva.

Per Executive Order this shall take effect on March 12, 2020.
