Tri-County High School Post-Secondary Students Win 46 Medals at State SkillsUSA Competition

Students from Tri-County Regional Vocational Technical High School brought home 46 medals from the SkillsUSA Massachusetts Championships held during the State Leadership and Skills Conference from April 30 through May 2 in Marlborough.

SkillsUSA is a national professional organization for career and technical students that provides leadership, citizenship and character development programs. Competitions run at the local and state level give students the opportunity to demonstrate both occupational and leadership skills. All Tri-County students are members of SkillsUSA.

Tri-County sent more than 130 students to the state conference, with 30 high school students and 16 post-secondary students receiving medals. The gold medal winners will be competing at the National SkillsUSA Competition in Louisville at the end of June.

Tri-County's gold medalists are Aimee Evers (Career Pathways: Health Services), Conor McCaffrey (Career Pathways: Arts and Communications), Cassius Peter (Related Technical Math), and Samuel Rivelis (Career Pathways: Arts and Communications), of Franklin, Harley Anderson (Non-Traditional Portfolio), of Medway, Brianna Chamberlain (Career Pathways: Health Services), Morgan Gould (Career Pathways: Health Services), Jeremy Piemonte (Career Pathways: Arts and Communications), and Tyler Thomas (Additive Manufacturing), of North Attleborough, Josh Fuller (Additive Manufacturing), of Plainville, Dillan Hoyt (Restaurant Services), of Walpole, Megan Morse (Non-Traditional Portfolio), Samantha Peterson (Non-Traditional Portfolio), and Erin Thibeault (Non-Traditional Portfolio), of Wrentham.

Gold medalists from the post-secondary Cosmetology and Practical Nursing programs are Emily Killion (Nail Care), of Bellingham, Lana Schifano (Medical Terminology), and Dian Tobin (Cosmetology), of Franklin, Cheyne Johnson (Related Technical Math), of Norfolk, Stephanie Logan (First Aid/CPR), of North Attleborough, Monica Harper (LPN), of Walpole, and Megan Demers (Medical Math), of Wrentham.

The high school silver medalists are Emily Spillane (First Aid/CPR), Kasie Wetherell (Career Pathways: Human Services), and Nicholas Wotton (Career Pathways: Human Services), of Franklin, Wayne Boone (Collision Repair Technology), and Lauren Albee (Career Pathways: Human Services), of Medway, Amanda Merigo (Exploratory Project Demo), of North Attleborough, Courtney Loney (Early Childhood Education) and Aaron Moore (Electrical Construction Wiring) of Plainville.

Post-secondary silver medalists are Jane Wambui (First Aid/CPR), of Attleboro, Rebecca Richardson (Medical Math), of Foxborough, Kimberly Hinger (Health Knowledge Bowl), and Kim Sargeant (LPN), of Franklin, Darlene Giusti (Health Knowledge Bowl), of North Attleborough, Sharon Blitchington (Medical Terminology), Leah Cook (Cosmetology), and Nicole Pieroway (Health Knowledge Bowl), of Wrentham.

Tri-County's bronze medalists are Aaron McLean (Career Pathways), of Bellingham, Bradley Schulze (Career Pathways), and Nicholas Young (Career Pathways), of Franklin, Sara Holden (Community Service), of Medway, Anthony Lopez (Community Service), of North Attleborough, Natasha Wright (Community Service), of Plainville, Armen Eghian (Extemporaneous Speaking), of Seekonk, and William O'Rourke (Diesel Equipment), of Wrentham.

Post-secondary student Bruce Dyl (LPN), of North Attleborough, also won a bronze medal.

Shaina Flanagan, of Norfolk, was selected as the National Voting Delegate and will campaign at the National SkillsUSA Competition to elect the national SkillsUSA officers.

Walpole senior Dillan Hoyt was named the 2015 recipient of the Jannine Baker Legacy Service Scholarship during the conference. The $1,000 scholarship is given annually to a student member of SkillsUSA Massachusetts who has distinguished themselves academically, as well as through their leadership and community service activities.
