Toddler Try-It: Creature Prints
Friday, May 1 • 10:00 AM - Noon
Young children, ages 18 months to 3 years, delve into different hands-on art and science activities each Friday morning. This week, toddlers use stamps and ink pads to make mythical creature prints.

Imagination Playground
Saturday, May 2 • 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM
Kids invent their own ways to play as they stack and build with huge blue foam blocks of all shapes and sizes. Using blocks, wheels, spools, tubes and a variety of loose parts, kids construct castles and forts, invent interesting sculptures and more!

Mosaics: Parts and Wholes
Sunday, May 3 • 1:00 - 3:00 PM
Everything is made of little pieces, and artists have made images using small pieces of materials for centuries. Join Peter Geisser – teacher of the deaf and artist who created a new mural in the Museum’s Water Ways exhibit – to make mosaics in celebration of Hearing Loss Awareness Month, presented with RI Commission on the Deaf and Hard of Hearing.

Meet Myrtle the Turtle

Meet the Museum’s tiny Eastern box turtle – a native New England creature – and learn about her habitat.


Play and Learn: In the Kitchen
Tuesday, May 5 • 10:00 AM - Noon
Play and Learn is the Museum’s open-ended story-based program especially for 2- to 4-year-olds and their parents, designed to help preschoolers build their skills in a variety of areas and to help parents continue the learning at home. This week, preschoolers cook up some fun as they pretend in a woodland “kitchen.”


Wood Works
Wednesday, May 6 & Thursday, May 7 • 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM
Kids create collages with wood pieces and glue, experiment with sanding and bolting, wield a hammer and learn what tools can do in Discovery Studio, the Museum’s art and science exploration space.

Young children, ages 18 months to 3 years, use real tools and explore the creative process as they delve into different hands-on art and science activities each Friday morning. This week, toddlers use sandpaper to investigate roughness and smoothness.


Mother’s Day Flowers
Saturday, May 9 & Sunday, May 10 • 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM
Create a variety of flowers for Mother's Day. Make a watercolor flower from a coffee filter, craft tissue paper flowers, and use recycled materials to make your own crazy flower creations. Admission is free for moms and grandmoms on Sunday, May 10 from 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM.

This week, preschoolers practice hand-eye coordination and explore the power of magnets as they catch colorful paper fish.

Shadow Puppets
ALSO Friday, May 15 • 5:30 - 7:30 PM
Inspired by a display of Chinese and Indonesian shadow puppets on view at the Museum, families craft their own shadow puppets, use shadows to tell stories, and create sun dials.

The Museum is open free of charge from 5:00 - 8:00 PM for “MetLife Family Friday – Free at Five!,” sponsored by MetLife Foundation. Stay out late and splash, play, explore and discover!



Electricity Exploration
Saturday, May 16 & Sunday, May 17 • 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM
Kids make simple circuits, test conductors and use citrus to create electricity, presented in partnership with online parent resource Kidoinfo.

This week, preschoolers dip into a bounty of big beads to practice patterning and fine motor skills.


Magnet Play
Wednesday, May 20 & Thursday, May 21 • 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM
Experiment and sculpt with magnets to explore the playful power of magnetism in Discovery Studio, the Museum’s open-ended art and science exploration space. Artfully arrange magnetic stones, test objects to see what's magnetic, and steer objects through mazes with a magnet wand.

Get out and play in the Museum’s Children's Garden. Kids hop, skip and jump as they experiment with long ropes, short ropes, flat ropes, round ropes.

Tuesday, May 26 • 10:00 AM - Noon
Play and Learn is the Museum’s open-ended story-based program especially for 2- to 4-year-olds and their parents, designed to help preschoolers build their skills in a variety of areas and to help parents continue the learning at home. This week, preschoolers practice problem solving as they build ramps and towers and experiment with rolling balls.

No Time to Waste

Kids and adults learn what's so funny about trash during an interactive family comedy that gives a lighthearted look at the three R’s of protecting the environment – reducing, reusing and recycling. Recommended for ages 5 & up; shows at 10:30 & 11:30 AM and 12:30 & 1:30 PM.

Providence Children’s Museum ¬– Come play, come learn!
The Museum is located at 100 South Street in Providence’s Jewelry District. September through March, open Tuesday through Sunday and Monday school holidays, 9 AM to 6 PM, and selected Fridays until 8 PM. April through August, open 7 days.
